Green Coffee Exploration

A detailed analysis of the specialty coffee supply chain in the highlands of Nicaragua.

Exploration stageExploration stage — GBA Intl. is not yet conducting commercial import or sales activities and is not currently accepting orders. Coffee-related exploration is scheduled to begin in August 2026. A first import may be considered for 2027, subject to the required validations.

Why Specialty Coffee?

Why Specialty Green Coffee?

Nicaragua boasts exceptional microclimates and premium high-altitude soils that produce coffees of immense aromatic complexity. Specialty green coffee (unroasted) offers the perfect avenue to establish a supply chain where every step, from wet milling to export logistics, is carefully documented to offer pristine traceability to Canadian craft roasters.

Quality & Traceability Criteria

Our evaluation process prioritizes crop altitude (Strictly High Grown - SHG classification), regional lot identity, processing methods (washed, natural, honey), and compliance with robust social and environmental standards.

Learning Objectives

During our exploratory missions, we are committed to researching several key operational parameters of local cooperatives:

  • Internal governance and financial transparency
  • Farming methodologies and environmental certifications
  • Cup profiles, traceability, and available crop volumes
  • Export logistics experience and regulatory compliance
Analysis Criteria

Coffee Categories Under Evaluation

We are assessing the feasibility of sourcing the following premium categories from established cooperatives and responsible smallholders:

Organic and Fairtrade Green Coffee

Certified lots that guarantee healthy environmental practices and equitable financial compensation for farmers.

Strictly High Grown (SHG) Organic Coffee

Cultivated above 1,200 meters to ensure slow bean maturation, exceptional density, and complex cup profiles.

Direct-Trade Specialty Lots

Selected high-scoring micro-lots negotiated through a direct, transparent purchasing line, eliminating intermediaries.

Structured Cooperative Programs

Supporting farmer organizations that actively reinvest in technical agronomy training and social progress.

Targeted Geographic Regions

GBA Intl. is focusing its exploratory research on regions celebrated for their agricultural heritage and optimal climate conditions:

  • 1
Matagalpa: A historic cradle of coffee cultivation, famed for rich volcanic soils and balanced, chocolatey, and fruit-toned cups.
  • 2
Jinotega: The largest coffee-producing region, providing high altitudes perfect for smooth, floral coffees with balanced, bright acidity.
  • 3
Nueva Segovia: Highly regarded for exceptional microlots that frequently win tasting competitions due to their refined, intricate profiles.

Preliminary Development Roadmap

Please Note: This roadmap represents a preliminary development vision subject to change based on the outcomes of technical, logistical, and commercial feasibility studies.

August 2026

Launch of On-Site Field Exploration

Traveling to Nicaragua to conduct face-to-face meetings with growers, inspect cooperative infrastructure, and evaluate their governance, farming methods, and long-term goals.

Late 2026 — Early 2027

Evaluation of the 2026–2027 Harvest

Conducting meticulous green coffee cupping trials, validating origin documentation, and verifying Canadian import regulatory compliance.

Mid-to-Late 2027

Potential Import

Considering the import of a first 20-foot shipping container of specialty green coffee into Canada, collaborating with licensed logistics operators.

2028

Canada Stabilization & European Outlook

Targeting a steady annual volume of two containers in Canada, while initiating market studies to introduce these premium coffees in Europe.

2028 and Beyond

Gradual Diversification

Assessing potential expansion into other sustainable products, notably fine-flavor Nicaraguan cacao, depending on coffee project success in Canada.
